Ocean energy comes in different forms. Three main types of ocean energy – tidal streams, rise of tide and wave energy. AlphaMERS has developed a wave energy converter to harness ocean energy and it has also designed a wave powered boat that is to be prototyped.

Ocean waves contain a lot of energy; though not much work has been done to harness this energy. AlphaMERS has developed a model of ocean wave energy harvester. We can see the surface floats that drive the convertors which is kept on the sea bed.

Wave Energy Converter (WEC)

AlphaMERS Ltd has developed the Wave Energy Converter (WEC) to efficiently harness renewable energy from sea waves. It consists of a seabed unit and a surface unit of floats that are connected to the seabed unit.
